APLFLSA (2003-2007)
Support for local partners through the dairy sector and animal health at Koumantou and Oualia
General context
Objectives
The specific objective of the action is to improve the livestock production through a healthy and powerful dairy sector in the districts of Koumantou and Oualia. More generally, the objective is to improve the food security of the target population as well as to improve their incomes resulting from dairy production.
Beneficiaries
In Koumantou, the target population consists of the association of the Koumantou dairy producers (APLK) which is joined with the association of milk saleswomen (AVLK). In Oualia, the group to benefit is the EGAB (Agreement of the Groupings Associated with Badumbé), representing 27 villages (or 12 000 people).
Activities
The strategy is supported by the three following axes:
- The participative involvement of the recipients during the various phases of action.
- Training and demonstrations in order to ensure local people will continue with the actions of their own accord.
- The application of the principle of covering the costs for the activities.
In 2005
- The actions of "empowerment" will predominate in order to consolidate the services and to guarantee their long term sustainability.
- Within the framework of improving dairy production, the funds for cattle fodder will be improved and innovations will be proposed (demonstrating and supporting the use of salt blocks for example). - Within the framework of developing the dairies: the actions will aim to increase the volume collected, treated and sold under improved sanitary conditions.
- Animal health services in the locality (equipment and management) will be improved.
