Marial Lou Livestock Training Center

Establishment

The Livestock Training Center (LTC) is located at Marial Lou in Tonj County, at the heart of the livestock rich Bahr El Ghazal region of southern Sudan. The Center, established by Law as a training institute of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Animal Resources, has grown from an emergency veterinary Training Institute (the Southern Sudan Animal Health Auxiliary Training Institute: SSAHATI) initially established and managed by VSF Belgium since 1996, into a full scale Livestock Training Center with the support of USAID under the Southern Sudan Agriculture revitalization Program (SSARP).

The new outfit established by the LTC Act (2004) is a locally owned and managed semi-autonomous corporate body.  VSF Belgium is still a key partner to the LTC and continues to provide technical and material support to the institutional development of the LTC and specifically to nurture the animal health department of the center.
